Public skating at the Arena is on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:45pm, Fridays from 5:00-6:30pm, Sundays from 2:30-4:00pm and then again from 6:00-7:30pm.  The Sunday 2:30pm skate sometimes cancels as a result of Minor Hockey Tournaments.  This Sunday, November 13, Public Skating is from 2:30-4:00pm and again from 6:00-7:30pm.  Please check the website to confirm, or give the Recreation Department a call at 250-362-2327.  Skate rentals are available if you don’t have your own.  If you do own skates and you need them sharpened, the Arena Attendant would be happy to sharpen them.

Indoor Soccer at RSS is on Wednesdays, at 7:00pm in the Gym.  This is a fun soccer game for those who love to play.  Although this is advertised as an Adult program in the Recreation guide, if you’re a Teen and love to play soccer – please come out and have fun!  Make sure you have clean, indoor running shoes and a full water bottle.

Do you have any young actors in the house?  The Recreation Department has two new Acting & Drama classes coming up!  The Imaginative Explorers class for kids ages 6 – 7 years, with Myla Marks – a certified Drama teacher, is a class where the kids will explore movement, voice and children’s imagination.  Through fun and interactive songs and theatre games the children will develop their skills through “swish stories”.  A swish story is when the Instructor reads a story and the children become the scenery, characters and props in mime.  When the Instructor turns the page and says “swish” the actors clear the scene and become the next page of the story.  This class is running for four weeks, from November 22 to December 13 on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00pm.

For older kids, the Find Your Funny Bone class will have kids exploring their voice, movement, scene development and improvisation.  The Instructor – Myla Marks, is a fully certified Drama Teacher who’s looking forward to getting to know the kids in the community, in this interactive and dynamic class.  Find Your Funny Bone is for kids 8-11 years of age on Tuesdays from 5:15-6:15pm, November 22 to December 13, 2011.

RougeMusic 2011-2012 concert series presents Kerri Lynn Zwicker and Harp Rouge….… a Harpchick that can sing like an angel but play like the devil.  The concert is on Saturday November 19th, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rouge Gallery (old bank building, Rossland).  Tickets $15 available at the Rouge Gallery.  For more information, please contact; 250 362-9609

Lots of new hockey programs starting in the Arena this month!  We need a minimum of 10 people registered for each program.  If you would like to register – don’t delay!

The Little Gretzky’s Hockey program is starting Tuesday, November 22 from 11:00-11:45am in the Rossland Arena.  Team Profilli has signed on to lead the next generation of hockey players learn the fundamentals of skating and hockey.  If you have a preschooler in the house, who would like to learn to skate and play hockey, register them for the Little Gretzky’s program!

The Co-Ed Youth Hockey program is for preteens and teens who would like to get out on the ice with friends and play some hockey!  This ice time is on Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00pm.  Drop in will be welcome only if the program has 10 registered for the session.  If your young person has “nothing to do” on Tuesdays, consider registering them for this fun, friendly hockey program.  The Profilli team will be teaching Youth the fundamentals of hockey – including skills, drills and a game of scrimmage at the end of each session.  Players will require the majority of hockey equipment – helmet and full face mask, neck guard, elbow pads and hockey stick are required.  Shin guards, hockey gloves and a cup are recommended.

The Girls Only REC Hockey program is for girls ages 5-10 years.  If your daughter has expressed an interest in playing hockey and has been scared away from our Co-Ed program, this is a great opportunity to get her out on the ice and learn the fundamentals.  This ice time is Tuesdays, from 4:15-5:15pm and led by the Profilli team – a combination of parents, grandparents and hockey enthusiasts.  This is a great opportunity for the young girls in our community.

For the big girls, we have the Teen Girls & Women Ice Hockey program – an ice time set aside on Fridays, from 3:30-4:45pm. Full hockey equipment is encouraged, but a minimum of a full face hockey helmet, elbow pads, neck guard and hockey stick are required.

Senior’s Duffer Hockey is off to a great start!  If you enjoy playing hockey and have Tuesday mornings available, come out to the Rossland Arena for a fun game of ice hockey.  This is an ice time set aside for players who are 50+ with varying skills.  Players are expected to play the game of hockey in the spirit of fellowship and sportsmanship.  All abilities are encouraged and welcome!  Play time is from 9:30 to 10:45am on Tuesdays at the Rossland Arena.  If you’re new to Rossland, enter the building from 2nd Ave, where you’ll find the change rooms and the washroom, immediately to your right.
