A call to the Provincial Crown Counsel office in Nelson B.C. shortly after 10 a.m. this morning (Ocft. 6) warned of a bomb in the Rossland courthouse.

Pending further investigation, RCMP will not release the caller’s identity or any details of the call except that it, “indicated the safety and security of the public and staff at the courthouse in Rossland BC may be in danger,” Corporal Johnson wrote in a press release.

Local RCMP, sheriffs, and plainclothes West Kootenay police were dispatched as the courthouse was quickly evacuated without incident. The court was cordoned off as police searched the building.

By 11:45 a.m., police had determined that there “was not any threat to the safety of the staff or public,” Johnson wrote.

Court proceedings then resumed. Today the court was dealing with a list of brief “criminal remands” dealt with in succession.

Johnson thanked, “all staff and public at the courthouse who reacted to the situation in a calm and professional manner.”
