RCMP launch new national marijuana grow strategy

October 6th, 2011

The RCMP is now publishing online the addresses of homes where marijuana grow-ops and other drug production operations were found — with one West Kootenay address already on the list.

The new page on the RCMP’s website is part of a new effort by police to target marijuana grow-ops and the organized crime gangs behind them.

The Marijuana Grow Initiative was launched this week, complementing the National Anti-Drug Strategy, police say.

Split up by province, the website lists the addresses where and when an MGO or clandestine lab was dismantled by the RCMP under the authority of a search warrant. Clandestine drug labs found in homes were also listed.

RCMP say publishing the addresses is part of the deterrence and awareness elements of the new strategy The only West Kootenay address listed so far is from a 438-plant June bust in Wynndel, on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake.

This site will be consistently updated with new properties and it will also feature resources for landlords and buyers alike concerning the damages MGOs and clandestine labs have on a property and its occupants.
