No elevator? No problem: third floor tirade lands man in jail

A man under the influence of street drugs took to wrecking his apartment Monday evening and throwing furniture, appliances and other items through his closed third-floor windows down onto the roadway below.
“Fortunately no one was standing below the windows when the tirade began, and no injuries were reported,” said NPD Sgt. Steve Bank.
When the tirade began around 9 p.m., police began to receive numerous 911 calls reporting the disturbance.
Upon arrival, police discovered a lone male in a third floor apartment throwing items through his closed windows.
“The male’s apartment was destroyed. The roadway below the apartment was strewn with shards of window glass, pieces of furniture, picture frames, a coffee maker, a clock radio, electronic game consoles and miscellaneous other items,” said Sgt. Bank.
The 29-year-old male, who was the resident of the apartment, was taken into custody without incident. As he was “under the influence of street drugs,” he was held in police cells until he was sober.
Further assessment of his mental health status will be done and further referrals made if necessary, said Sgt. Bank.
A City of Nelson work crew was called in to clear the debris from the roadway, and a Nelson Hydro crew was called in to clear debris from electrical wires below the man’s windows.
As well, a private glass company was called to remove and repair the broken glass in the residence. Total value of the property damaged in the incident is unknown.
Getting the dope on speed
Talk about a rush delivery.
After Nelson police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 3A west Monday night just inside the city limits, they conducted a brief search and uncovered 15 pounds of dried marijuana and $6,000 concealed in the vehicle.
The two men in the vehicle from Alberta were taken into custody and their vehicle was seized. The police investigation is ongoing.
Charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime are forthcoming.
- In all, Nelson police attended 61 incidents between Sept. 30 and Oct. 3.
