B.C. youth win with $400,000 for KidSport BC

The Province is helping even more young British Columbians participate in community-based sport by investing $400,000 in KidSport BC in 2011-12.
More than 1,500 children and youth will benefit from this funding through KidSport BC.
The non-profit organization provides financial assistance to British Columbia youth who face financial barriers preventing them from participating in community-based sport programs.
Grants averaging $200 help cover the cost of registration fees for one season of sport.

Since 2006-07, the Province has invested more than $1.8 million in KidSport BC.
With the help of the Province and other supporters, since 2006-07 KidSport BC has expanded from fewer than 20 community chapters to 39, and helped more than 15,000 kids.
KidSport BC is part of KidSport Canada, a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance to help cover registration fees and equipment for youth aged 18 and younger.
In 2010, more than 5,400 youths participated in a season of sport in more than 40 different sports thanks to KidSport BC support.
To be eligible for KidSport BC funding, youth must reside in B.C. and be 18 years old or younger.
This is the second Ritchie Bros. Corporate Kids Challenge. Twenty-two teams are taking part to raise money for KidSport BC.
Team KidSport athletes and Olympians Mike and Britt Janyk, Denny Morrison and Emily Brydon are slated to participate at this year’s event.
Last year’s event raised more than $170,000 for KidSport BC.
