Pilot dies in plane crash in mountains near Yoho National Park

One man is dead after a missing plane was found crashed in a national park near Golden.
Golden RCMP say they located the plane late Wednesday in Yoho National Park. The Cessna was found in a gorge on Mount King.
RCMP said a man and his dog were on the plane when it took off from Southern Alberta, headed to the BC Interior.
The pilot relayed his co-ordinates to flight crews when the plane was near Mount Vaux, RCMP said. That was the last known location of the plane before it crashed.
A helicopter helped rescuers remove the dead pilot from the crash site, which is in an area under an avalanche threat, RCMP said.
Rescuers also noted there were animal footprints leading away from the crash site, which the RCMP believe are from the pilot’s dog.
The identity of the dead man isn’t being released until police notify next of kin. The provincial coroner and Transport Canada are investigating the incident.
RCMP said more information about the investigation will be released Thursday morning.
