2011 B.C. Senior Games open West Kootenay office

Society president June Parsons was overwhelmed with the local support.
All three mayors, Castlegar’s Lawrence Chernoff, John Dooley of the Heritage City and Home of Champions skipper Dieter Bogs, boasted how the strong partnership between the Tri Cities guarantees a success.
And Friends of the Games director Darlene Kalawsky showed just how far organizers are along in the goal to make this the best games ever by parading the long list of sponsors in front of the partisan crowd.
The 2011 West Kootenay edition of the B.C. Senior Games has officially launched into the home stretch with the official ribbon cutting of the new offices Tuesday evening at the Castlegar Airport.
Headed by Master of Ceremonies, Bill Reid of Nelson, one by one speakers lauded the success of the provincial event even before the first athlete has registered.
“This is the most local sponsors I’ve seen in any of the previous games,” B.C. Senior Games Society preside June Parsons told the crowd on hand to mark the official opening of the new Seniors Games offices on the second floor of the airport.
The West Kootenay Senior Games is being held in jointly in Trail, Castlegar and Nelson August 16th to 20th.
Competition in more than 20 sports from Crib to Carpet Bowling, from Ice Hockey to Soccer and Horseshoes to One-Act Plays will be staged during the four days across the West Kootenay.
The athletes must be over the age of 55.
