Police are rescinding a public warning sent out earlier today after determining a “child abduction” did not, in fact, take place.

“We can now confirm that this incident is unfounded,” said RCMP Inspector Nick Romanchuk.  “During the early stages of our investigation, we felt that it was imperative that we forward this information to the public as soon as possible, however, we are now in a position to state that this incident did not occur.”   This, after Salmo police issued a press release indicating a 13-year-old male had been abducted in Salmo between 8:30 and 9 a.m. today.   Romanchuk was not available, in time for this posting, to offer comment as to why the false report was made.
