Organized crime has hit the West Kootenay, according to Nakusp RCMP.

The bust of a drug dealer in the town, located 147 kilometres north of Nelson at the edge of the Slocan Valley, shows how a dealer allegedly ran a business across the street from an elementary school, Nakusp RCMP said.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with numerous offences in connection with a June 3 investigation in which police raided a suspected drug house on Sixth Avenue — seizing dried pot, marijuana plants, 46 pills of ecstasy, several grams of Ketamine and magic mushrooms.

Also seized was approximately $1,500 in cash and drug paraphernalia.

RCMP alleged the house, located across the street from an elementary school and the high school, was a source of drugs for local youth.

The investigation arose after police received numerous complaints from residents and school staff.

The man has been charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and the production of a controlled substance.
