Marley Bassett of Nelson has won the right to the first ride heading up the new Glory Ridge triple chair at Whitewater Ski Resort.

The twenty-something Bassett had the winning ticket during the raffle draw Monday at Whitewater.

Bassett now joins two of friends on the first chair when the lift is open later this week.

“We’re working through some remaining safety measures so we can open the chair,” Marketing Manager Anne Pigeon told The Nelson Daily Wednesday night.

Pigeon said crews worked late into the night both Tuesday and Wednesday to complete the necessary safety tasks. Pigeon added Whitewater would make the call on when to open the new triple chair Thursday.

Tentative date is Friday or Sunday.

The Glory Ridge raffle was a tremendous success. Proceeds went to helping the Whitewater Ski Team, the Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaris, and the Nelson Food Cupboard.

Whitewater currently has a base at the top of the Summit of 154 cm/60.6 inches.

The hill is open from 11a.m. to 3p.m. on Christmas Day with the Silver King chair in operation.
