A Crime Stoppers tip has landed one man in jail and handed a woman an eight-month conditional sentence after both pled guilty on drug charges in Nakusp Provincial Court Thursday.
Slocan residents Ezra Buller, 36, and Angela Jacobs, 32, were both convicted of charges of production of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) for the purpose of trafficking.
Buller will serve eight months in jail, forfeit 50 per cent of the equity in his residence as the proceeds of crime, and forfeit all of the drug paraphernalia found in the home.
Jacons received a conditional sentence for 10 months and the mandatory 10-year weapons prohibition.
Their grow operation was discovered by Slocan Lake RCMP after receiving an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip in 2008.
Following a police investigation, RCMP secured a search warrant on March 8, 2008 under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The property involved was located on the 600 Block of Park Ave. in Slocan, 75 kilometres northwest of Nelson in the Slocan Valley.
An indoor marihuana grow operation was located in both the attic and basement of the residence, said Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment Stff. Sgt. Dan Seibel.
In all, 459 marijuana plants, 54 grams of dried harvested marijuana and two garbage bags of marijuana leaves were seized.
“Both accused were residents of the house at that time but not physically present when the search warrant was executed,” said Sgt Seibel.
