Relay for Life a big success!

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life in Greater Trail proved to be a tremendous success, raising more than $90,000 to fight cancer. The annual fundraiser took place on Saturday, May 29 where participants came together to celebrate the lives of those who have overcome cancer, remember loved ones lost, and empower individuals and communities to fight back against the disease.
Money raised through Relay For Life supports the most promising cancer research, community support programs to people living with cancer, comprehensive cancer information, prevention initiatives, and advocacy for healthy public policies.
British Columbia and the Yukon’s 2010 Relay For Life results:
· 33 teams were involved
· 66 cancer survivors and caregivers celebrated by walking the Survivors’ Victory Lap
· 389 luminaries were lit in honour or in memory of loved ones
· 84 volunteers were critical in making it all happen
About Relay For Life
The Canadian Cancer Society Relay For Life is a 12-hour, non-competitive event in which teams of up to 15 people take turns walking or running around the track. The event opens with the Survivors’ Victory lap, an inspirational lap for people who have survived cancer. At dusk, luminaries are lit in honour of loved ones touched by cancer and provide inspiration to participants all night long. Relay is the world’s largest non-profit fundraising event with over $6 million raised in British Columbia/Yukon alone last year.
