The Castlegar police are asking anyone with information regarding a fire Thursday to come forward.

RCMP Cpl. Deb Postnikoff said police got the call around 6 p.m. Thursday evening to attend the 1000 block of Highway 3 (the highway heading toward Grand Forks).

“There was a fire in the field behind the property owner’s house,” she said. “Three old cars and an old van caught fire, and the fire spread to the field and was heading toward an adjacent wooded area,” she added. “The Ootischenia Fire Department extinguished the fire.”

That’s not the end of the story, though, as police have deemed the fire ‘suspicious’.

“It doesn’t appear to be the rsult of natural causes,” she said.. “We’re investigating, and we’d like like anyone with more information, who might have seen someone suspicious, to call Crimestoppers or the detachment at 250-365-7721.”

No one was injured in the blaze.
