Castlegar police are asking the public to come forward with any information they might have regarding a home invasion last night.

RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew said a man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after an incident that took place at roughly 10:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, in the 3000 block of Fifth Avenue.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that several persons burst into the victims’ home and assaulted the male victim quite seriously and pushed the female victim around,” Mathew said. “The suspects then fled the residence in what is believed to be a dark-green-coloured van. The van was last seen heading southbound toward Trail.”

She said this appears to be a targeted attack, which means the general public is not at risk.

Mathew confirmed that weapons were involved in the attack, but refrained from providing further details. She also said it’s too early to tell if drugs or other illegal activity was a factor.

“We don’t know what the motive was at this stage,” she said. “We’re still conduction interviews.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Castlegar RCMP detachment at 250-365-7721 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
