Youth groups from all across the West Kootenays are sharing their compassion and concern for disaster stricken Haiti by banding together to hold a fundraising event at the Brilliant Cultural Centre on Jan.30 at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be collected and passed on to the Canadian Red Cross for the Haitian relief effort.

Everyone in the West Kootenay area is invited to attend this special event that will feature our incredibly talented local youth and those “young at heart” as they perform in various musical, cultural arts and choral presentations. Some of the groups performing include the Kootenay Women’s Chorale, Turning Pointe Performance Company, Vision of Peace Youth Choir, Stanley Humphries Secondary School Band, Kootenay Dance Works and St. Michael’s Youth Choir, as well as many other choirs, musicians and soloists from Nelson, Castlegar, Trail and Rossland.

This event has been spearheaded by Ellie Davidoff, director of Castlegar’s Vision of Peace Youth Choir. She is challenging other communities across the country to get involved in fundraising efforts for Haiti.

“I challenge all communities across Canada to stir youth into positive action by holding benefit concerts showcasing their talents. I strongly believe the passion and talent of our youth creates inspiration and helps channel our energies towards helping those in need,” said Davidoff.
