Local MP speaks to possible election

Local NDP MP Alex Atamanenko said, in an interview today, that while he can’t predict the future, a federal election this fall appears likely.
“It sounds as if there’s a strong possibility,” he said. “It also appears that nobody wants an election … but, on the other hand, if we have to go to the polls, it’s my hope that people will take the half-hour to go and vote.”
Atamanenko went on to say that, while he understands the public’s aversion to casting yet another federal ballot, he thinks the issues of the day merit a re-think of our current leadership.
“I, personally, think the Conservatives have had a long time to get things right. They still haven’t addressed a number of important issues, like a real solution to the employment crisis we’re facing right now,” he said.
“I think the country deserves better.”
Atamanenko added he feels this minority government was a golden opportunity to create real collaboration rather than partisan polarization and, to his mind, Prime Minister Stephen Harper blew the chance to do so.
