Traffic Adjustments During Retaining Wall Replacement on Highway 3-B

The Department of Highways and Transportation is replacing the “bin wall” — the retaining wall on Columbia Avenue at and around the 1400 block, and anyone travelling by there will be aware that work has begun. Traffic along Columbia is one lane, alternating, with flag-persons directing traffic.
Access to and from Columbia Avenue via nearby streets is closed off. Traffic from Lower Rossland (including the BC Transit bus) is being re-directed along LeRoi Avenue to downtown.
Cliff Street is closed off from Upper Columbia Avenue; vehicular access to and from Lower Columbia Avenue is blocked off at Columbia Avenue; Lower Columbia Avenue is blocked to cars and trucks at Monita Street for utility work at that intersection. The lane below Columbia Avenue is blocked to vehicular traffic at Cliff Street on the south side of Columbia, though it is open to pedestrians and bicycles, who can still access the paths below Columbia Avenue from there.
Be prepared to adjust to these changes until the work is done — possibly before the end of October, if no complications arise. Homes near the construction have a ring-side view of the proceedings — not to mention the noise and dust. And if you live along the western section of LeRoi Avenue, be prepared for all the additional traffic — including dump trucks as well as the buses.
