On Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 6:10 pm, Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a kayaker who had become trapped under a log in the Slocan River near Shoreacres Goosecreek Road in Shoreacres.

Fellow kayakers as well as bystanders were able to free the 62-year-old Rossland man and began performing CPR until they were relieved by a physician of the Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association as well as the BC Ambulance Service.

The man was transported to hospital where, sadly, he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

BC Coroners Service has conduct of the investigation.
