Coyote Bites Man, and other RCMP news

From the RCMP report:
On January 24, 2019, around 9:00 pm the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment received a report that a man was bitten by a coyote in the lower parking lot of the Red Mountain Ski Resort, in Rossland, BC. The bite broke the skin and the man sought medical attention at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, in Trail, BC. The BC Conservation Officers were advised about the incident.
The RCMP suggests that everyone should be aware of this issue when out at night in rural areas and to avoid contact with any coyote if possible. Please report any wildlife conflicts or incidents to your local RCMP and the BC Conservation Officer Service.
RCMP at the Rossland Winter Carnival
The Trail and Greater RCMP Detachment maintained a strong presence during the Rossland Winter Carnival, in Rossland, BC, in addition to responding to calls for service over the weekend.
On Friday, January 25, 2019, around 11:30 pm the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment attended to a report of a party causing a disturbance at a hotel in Rossland. The party-goers were cooperative and brought their gathering to an end after the police attended.
On January 26, 2019, around 3:30 pm the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment responded to a report of an intoxicated man trying to hitchhike and wandering into traffic along Highway 22, in Trail, BC. Officers found him and he was cooperative; he had attended the Rossland Winter Carnival and was trying to get home. Police assisted him in contacting a friend who picked him up and gave him a ride home.
On January 26, 2019, The Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment attended the Rossland Winter Carnival Beer Garden in Rossland, after they were contacted by security with a report of people jumping over the fence. The persons responsible were spoken to by security and were compliant by the time the police arrived on the scene.
On Saturday, January 26, 2019, around 1:30 pm the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment conducted a Counter Attack Road Check at the intersection of Highway 3B and LeRoi Avenue, in Rossland. 25 vehicles and drivers were checked for impairment and BC Motor Vehicle Act infractions. No one was impaired and no infractions were found.
Has anyone lost an urn?
The Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment need the public’s help in returning a precious item to a family. On January 25, 2019, an urn containing ashes was turned into the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment. The urn is described as a red glass urn with letters “BLS” written on a brown leather strap wrapped around the outside (photo attached). The RCMP are looking to return the urn to the owner and are asking anyone with information to contact the Trail and Greater District Detachment at 250-364-2566.
A new K-9 member of the RCMP in the area:
Members of the public may see Trail and the Greater District RCMP Detachment police officers working alongside their new four-legged partner and his handler around town. Jimmy, a two-year-old German Shepherd, and his handler, Constable Innes of the ‘E’ Division Traffic Services Roving Traffic Unit, have been working with local police officers while conducting traffic and drug enforcement in the Trail and Greater District area. Jimmy and Constable Innes have been working in the area for a while; however, they have gone largely unnoticed by the public until now.
Jimmy was specially trained at the RCMP Kennels dog training facility in Innisfail, Alberta to detect a variety of drugs.. Jimmy typically detects drugs during routine traffic stops initiated by Constable Innes. Jimmy and Constable Innes have had good success which includes a recent example. On January 22, 2019, Cocaine, cash, and 2 cell phones were seized from a local male suspect after Jimmy indicated that he was in possession of these drugs. Charges for possessing drugs for the purpose of trafficking are being forwarded to Crown Counsel.
The Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment is very happy with this partnership as it is a powerful tool to get drugs out of the community.
