March Speaker Series with Ron Dennett – Murphy Creek Headwaters Plane Crash: Tragedy in the Rossland Range

On Oct. 18, 1947, a Royal Canadian Air Force plane carrying nine people – seven RCAF crew members and two civilians – crashed near Mount Plewman in the Rossland Range. There were no survivors. Five years later, in October of 1952, Wilf Gibbard came across the remnants of the plane. Much of the story of that fateful flight remains a mystery. Ron Dennett, RMDC volunteer and researcher, has been digging into this story for many years now and will share a special presentation about this fatal crash and the discovery of the wreckage at the Museum on Thursday, March 30, at 6 p.m. Learn more: www.rosslandmuseum.ca/news/ron-dennett-2023Contact Skylar at community@rosslandmuseum.ca or 250-362-7722 for more information.

Easter Egg Hunt:

Snow is on the ground but spring is in the air, and that means it’s almost time for our annual Easter Egg Hunt! Come up to the Museum on Saturday, April 8 to join in the hunt, try your hand at a classic egg-and-spoon race, bunny-hop your way through a sack race, and more! Egg Hunts start at 10:30, 11:30, 1:30, and 2:30. Entry is by donation. This event is supported in part by Columbia Basin Trust. Learn more: https://www.rosslandmuseum.ca/news/easter-2023

Spring Programming at the Museum:

Spring is on its way, and that means Spring Programming at the Museum is coming up! Our Youth programming here at the museum is just getting warmed up, and you won’t want to miss all of the new developments in our programs AND the Discovery Zone. Young Naturalists will continue on Tuesdays from 3-5 p.m. while Thursdays will now focus on Rockhounds, a geology-themed program also from 3-5 pm. Our Cub Club program continues in its familiar Friday position from 10-11 a.m. and STEAM Saturdays can always be counted on each Saturday from 2-4 p.m. We can’t wait to see you up here at the Museum!
