Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue crews undertook a challenging rope rescue in Montrose Wednesday afternoon, according to KBRFR Cpt. Grant Tyson.

Tyson said the call came in at 3:12 p.m., and crews arrived within nine minutes (eight firefighters from Trail and three from Montrose) at the 900 Block of 9 Avenue.

“A local home owner was (felling) trees near his property, 260 feet down an embankment,” Tyson said, adding the man was struck by a tree. “Station 374 Technical Rope Team had the patient up the bank in 84 minutes.

“The patient was flown directly to a trauma centre by BCAS.”

The status of the patient is not available at this time.
