Celebrate local watershed by participating in WaterWalk

On Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., join the Rossland Streamkeepers for a “WaterWalk” to celebrate the local watershed.
This free, family friendly event is all about getting outside and exploring the Trail Creek watershed. You can start your WaterWalk at one of the three trailhead stations – in Rossland, Warfield and Trail – so you need not walk, jog or ride the entire 10 km trail.
In Rossland, the trailhead is at the start of the Louis Joe trail (Washington & Thompson); In Warfield, it is at the Community Hall (Shutek Dr. at Hwy 3B); In Trail, it is on the Promenade (where Trail Creek meets Columbia R).
Volunteers at the trailhead stations will supply maps of the WaterWalk as it weaves its way through the Louis Joe, Rubberhead, Railgrade, the streets of central Warfield (Lytton, Forrest, Willow, Wolfe, Montcalm, Annable) to the Trail Creek downstream along Haig St. to the Gulch (Reservoir, Binns, Old Rossland Ave.) and through the streets of downtown Trail (Pine and Farwell) to end up at the confluence of Trail Creek and Columbia River.
The idea of the event is to get people to explore the Trail Creek watershed and learn about its history and ecosystem from the seven interpretive signs posted along the way. If you start at Warfield or Trail you need not walk too far upstream before you come across an interpretive sign.
At 1 p.m., meet at the Village Square Park behind the Warfield Community Hall for a wrap-up party to hear about the work of the Streamkeepers. Snacks, food, and refreshments will be available to all participants – bring your own mug.
There will be prizes for participants who complete the available Watershed Trivia Hunt and/or dress up in a wildlife costume. Complete the entire Watershed Trivia sheet and be entered into the Lucky Draw to win the big prize. Although this is a participation event and not a contest, relay teams and cyclists are encouraged to complete the entire 10km WaterWalk route.
There is a rumour that music may be provided by J.Lloyd Crowe.
So join in the party and walk, skip, run or bicycle through our watershed – learn something new, and explore your backyard.
