Salmo school locked down as RCMP manage threat situation
On April 27, Salmo RCMP responded to a report involving threats towards police made by a man who alleged he was in possession of weapons and intended to use them at a downtown Salmo residence.
Due to the nature of the allegations and the proximity of the incident to a local school, officers attended the area and worked with school officials to place the school on hold and secure as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Officers located the man at his residence and engaged him in a brief negotiation. The situation was resolved without incident, and the man was safely arrested and taken into custody.
“Our officers demonstrated professionalism, patience, and a strong commitment to public safety throughout this incident,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, BC RCMP spokesperson. “Through calm communication and measured actions, officers were able to resolve the situation safely, with no injuries and minimal disruption to the community.”
The school was returned to normal operations once police determined there was no ongoing risk to public safety. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Salmo RCMP.
