Rossland Cemeteries Restoration
The Rossland Heritage Commission is pleased to report that they obtained a grant of $4,836 from the Heritage B.C. Legacy Fund in order to make progress on the restoration of the Calvary Cemetery. This cemetery is in the Sacred
Heart Parish of Rossland and is one of the 3 oldest cemeteries in Rossland. The first recorded burial in the cemetery
was in 1896. It is located in Lower Rossland, and accessed from Esling Drive.
The Calvary Cemetery restoration included a call out to the community for volunteers. On two days in May and June and
one day in September, groups of dedicated volunteers worked diligently to clear dirt and ingrown grass from the cribbing
around the gravesites. The work completed by these volunteers enabled our skilled mason David St. Denis to more
efficiently clean and restore some of the stonework. Our plan is to continue the restoration and upkeep of
monuments and grave sites in both the Columbia and Calvary Cemetery over the next few years.
