Castlegar man dies in fire
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Oct. 23, emergency services in Castlegar were alerted to fire situated behind a business located in the 1700 block of Columbia Avenue in Castlegar, according to Castlegar RCMP Sgt. Monty Taylor.
“Upon attendance the fire was active, engulfing a male and personal items on the ground. The fire was extinguished and the 70-year-old Castlegar man was transported to hospital where he unfortunately succumbed to injuries,” Taylor said.
“The investigation, which included reviewing surveillance footage, determined the lone male arrived at the location. After some time, the male started a fire, potentially for light or warmth, which later spread to him and his items.”
Police are continuing to assist the BC Coroner Service and the Castlegar Fire Department in their investigation.
