New leadership for Trail’s planning and climate action

 The City of Trail is welcoming Chris Buchan as the Manager of Planning and Climate Action.

Chris is a seasoned planner with a strong track record in land use, environmental policy, and climate strategy. He’s led major planning projects across BC, from updating Official Community Plans to shaping climate and housing strategies. He brings a bold, forward-thinking approach to community development.

“Chris joins the City as its first professional planner, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to thoughtful and strategic growth,” said Colin McClure, Chief Administrative Officer. “His expertise and leadership will help us shape a future where smart planning and climate-conscious decisions contribute to a more livable City.”

In this new role, Chris will lead planning and development initiatives, support climate action programs, and help implement Trail’s updated Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw. His leadership will be key as the City continues to build a resilient, vibrant future.

“I’m excited to be joining the City of Trail and to bring my family to experience all that the beautiful Kootenay region has to offer,” said Chris Buchan. “I look forward to drawing on my diverse planning experience to support the City in navigating evolving challenges and opportunities.”

Chris joins a growing team of new leaders at City Hall, strengthening the City’s commitment to innovation, collaboration, and service excellence.
