The first cadet to leave was Piper Wehowsky. Piper left on Saturday morning for Rocky Mountain Cadet Training Centre where they will be attending the Introduction to Pipe Band course.
On Sunday morning, four cadets took a bus to Vernon Cadet Training Centre. Aidian Perepelkin-Redding is attending the two-week Introduction to Sports and Fitness course. Cadets Joachim Aquino, Johnethen Phillips and Matthew Morris are all attending the two-week Introduction to Drill and Ceremony course.
On Sunday afternoon, four more cadets flew to HMCS Quadra Cadet Training Centre. Zoe Belleperche is attending the two-week Introduction to Military Band course. Tyler Denny, Molly Milne and Nathan Leonard are attending Aviation Technology and Aerospace.
In the next weeks, other cadets will be travelling to Whitehorse Cadet Training Center and CFB Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre.
531 Squadron also has two cadets who are employed for the summer leading the cadets at their Cadet Training Centres. Ryden Wahl is working for eight weeks at CFB Cold Lake Cadet Training Centre and Jaden Aikman is spending the summer at HMCS Quadra Cadet Training Centre.
There is no charge for the cadets to attend summer training, and they are paid a small training bonus for attending the course.
The Cadet program, which includes Sea, Army and Air Cadets, is the largest government funded youth program in Canada with over 50,000 participants across Canada. The cadet program accepts youth between the ages of 12-18 who have a desire to learn more about the Canadian Forces, wish to develop the attributes of leadership and good citizenship and who wish to promote physical fitness. While the program is military based, there is no obligation for a cadet to join the Canadian Armed Forces when they finish their cadet career.
The Cadet Program is open to all Canadian youth regardless of income, race, religion, culture or other socio-economic factors. The program embraces Canada’s multiculturalism and offers young Canadian’s opportunities to interact with youth from other cultures.
At any time, new cadets can start their application at https://registration.cadets.gc.ca/get-started.html
531 Squadron will have its first meeting for its 75th training year on Wednesday 17 September 2025 in the Kemball (Trail) Armoury at 1990 7th Ave, starting at 6:15pm.  Adults who would like to volunteer with the squadron are also welcome.
