The City of Trail is moving forward with the hazardous materials abatement and demolition of two derelict properties in the downtown core. The abatement and demolition of both the former CS Williams Clinic at 901 Helena Street and the former Towne Square Mall at 900 Spokane Street have been awarded to LOCAL Industrial Partners Ltd. of Genelle, BC.

“These projects are a crucial step to ensure the safety and well-being of our community,” said Colleen Jones, Mayor of Trail. “This will open up opportunities for future development and revitalization, aligning with our strategic priorities and vision for Trail’s growth.”

The demolition of these two properties had been outlined as an area of focus by the current City Council in the 2024-2026 Strategic Priorities. These projects are necessary to remove unsafe structures and hazardous materials, which pose health and safety risks to the community. Clearing these sites will provide significant opportunities for future development and revitalization of the downtown area.

The City will be working with LOCAL Industrial to minimize traffic disruption, noise, and dust as much as reasonably possible throughout each phase of the project.

“We are honoured to be entrusted with these important projects in the heart of Trail. Personally, having grown up nearby, projects like this carry special significance,” said Garett White, LOCAL Industrial Partners Vice President Operations. “Our LOCAL team is committed to executing this work with the utmost safety, precision, and respect for the people and environment we serve.”

Work is expected to begin before the end of May, resulting in minor parking and traffic changes and sidewalk closures. LOCAL Industrial will provide notification in advance of any service disruptions in the area. The projects anticipated completion dates are near the end of September.
