Rossland trumps Black Friday with Annual Ladies’ Shop-Local Event
Get ready to paint the town red on Nov. 28 as the third annual Red Thursday unwraps in downtown Rossland from 6 – 10 p.m. The vibrant shop-local initiative is an exclusive, one-night-only event that offers an exciting opportunity for women to enjoy a fun-filled evening of shopping, dining, and celebrating the heart of community just before the chaos of Black Friday begins.
“Red Thursday is much more than just a night out,” says the Rooted Table Collective’s Miche Warwick, the organizer behind the event. “It’s about putting our money where our hearts are and showing our small businesses how much we appreciate them. It’s become something everyone looks forward to; it’s a way to encourage our community to shop local and invest in the incredible businesses that make Rossland thrive.”
An exciting alternative to the big-box retailer rush, Red Thursday includes participating businesses offering exclusive sales, many with storewide discounts, in-store giveaways, and a chance to win a grand prize. The concept was born from the desire to create a fun, impactful event that brings locals together to celebrate Rossland’s small business community and contribute to an energetic downtown atmosphere.
Returning retailers include Bear Country Kitchen, Bombshack, Butch Boutry, Curiosity Clothing, Delicious Baby & Kids, Goldrush Bookstore, Nature’s Den, Out of the Cellar, Revolution Cycles, Rossland Outdoor, Rooted Table Collective, Sister Sister, and Stephanie Gauvin Studio. New participants this year include Lupin Studio, Achillea & Co, Century 21, RE/MAX, and pop-up vendors hosted by The Eagles and Out of the Cellar.
This year’s event will also feature music, happy hour specials and all-day drink deals at participating local restaurants and bars, including Alpine Grind, B&T’s Hard Knock Cafe, Gabriella’s, Hooper’s Bakery, Rossland Beer Co, and The Flying Steamshovel. RE/MAX will also keep the energy high with a DJ playing a late-night, dance-worthy soundtrack.
New this year is an exclusive Red Thursday photo booth at Century 21, hosted by Katrina Cox Photography, where attendees can capture the memories of the night with a professional photograph using fun props. The Prestige Hotel is also offering 50% off hotel rooms exclusively for event attendees — a rare discount that’s not to be missed.
As small businesses face ongoing challenges like staffing shortages, Warwick emphasizes the importance of supporting your neighbours.
“Red Thursday is our way of showing small businesses that we value them, especially in these tough times,” she says. “In just four hours, we bring over $100,000 into the local economy, which makes a huge difference to our community.”
