West Kootenay Basketball Officials take to court to call fouls on cancer

Basketball Officials in the West Kootenay are once again joining with their provincial colleagues to call fouls on CANCER.
West Kootenay Basketball Officials are again raising money and awareness in the 15th Call a Foul on Cancer — Pink Whistles Legacy Fund, which strives to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society — B.C. and Yukon Division.
West Kootenay Basketball Officials joined more than 600 Basketball Referees in the province to officiate games during the month of February using a Pink Whistle.
Some of the upcoming games during the month — from February 1-20, 2024, officials will be wearing pink referee jerseys or using pink whistles.
During the first week of the Pink Whistle campaign, more than $10,000 was raised provincially through whistle and jersey purchases and donations.
Anyone interested in donating to the Call a FOUL on Cancer — Pink Whistle campaign can do so at the Call a Foul on Cancer — Pink Whistle Legacy Fund link or through the BC Cancer link.

In 2022, West Kootenay Officials raised more than $1,000 Call a Foul on Cancer — Pink Whistle Legacy Fund.
The high school basketball season continues on many fronts, with upcoming tournaments set for J. Lloyd Crowe in Trail and Stanley Humphries in Castlegar, which includes the L.V. Rogers Senior Girls.
There are also games during the week in Salmo, Trail, Castlegar and Grand Forks.
At the Hangar Thursday afternoon, the LVR Bombers host Grand Forks Wolves for a pair of Junior Boys and Senior Boys games set to begin at 4 p.m.
