National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Join us on September 30

September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to honour the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities.
An all-ages event to reflect, learn, engage, and take action will be held on this day at Trail’s Jubilee Park (behind the Trail Riverfront Centre) from 11 am to 3 pm. Activities include an Action Walk, storytelling, interactive learning, and food by donation.
September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day – an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations. We encourage everyone to wear orange to show their support.
The event is hosted and supported by the City of Trail, Trail & District Public Library, Trail Museum & Archives, VISAC Gallery, Blood of Life Collective, USW Local 480, Trail & District Arts Council, Teck Trail Operations, Kootenay Savings, Kootenay South Métis and CBAL.
