Special weather statement for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
Environment Canada has issued a Special weather statement Friday for Highway 3 — Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
Environment Canada said heavy rain is expected, with snow accumulations near the summit for Highway 3 Friday morning.
“A weather system continues to give heavy rain over Kootenay regions — snow level is currently near 1700 meters,” Environment Canada said.
The rain has changed to snow at Kootenay Pass.”
Environment Canada said the snow level will continue to fall this morning and drop to near 1300m by this afternoon, but as the system moves away from the region, the heavy precipitation will transition to rain showers or flurries later this morning.
Environment Canada said approximately 5 to 10 cm of snow can be expected over Kootenay Pass today.
Environment Canada warns drivers that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
