On Nov. 3, Teck Trail Operations, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue and the Regional District Kootenay Boundary Emergency Program will be staging an emergency response exercise. This exercise is a training opportunity for Teck and our mutual aid partners.

The exercise will take place at Teck’s Warfield Operations from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, there will be an increase in emergency response vehicles in the area. Bingay Road will be closed to traffic during this time with traffic control in place. Traffic can detour via Hwy 22.

The mock exercise will involve many community and mutual aid partners including the Regional District Kootenay Boundary Emergency Program Partners (the City of Trail and the Village of Warfield), Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, School District No. 20, and FortisBC. The exercise is being coordinated with the assistance of a consulting firm specializing in crisis management.

Safety is a core value at Teck Trail Operations. As such, we continually work to minimize or eliminate the possibility of safety incidents. This is done through plant engineering and design, risk assessment and mitigation, training and standard operating procedures. This exercise is an opportunity to continually enhance our mutual preparedness in partnership with our community and mutual aid partners.
