Vancouver man fined after violating travel restrictions

Police can and will issue fines for travel violations under the BC Emergency Program Act, according to Trail RCMP Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, who provided a case-in-point as follows:
“On Saturday, May 29, at 5:15 p.m., a BC Highway Patrol officer was conducting a vehicle patrol when he was alerted to a man in distress on Seven Mile Dam Road in Trail,” Wicentowich said. “Trail and Greater District RCMP and BC Highway Patrol officers then located a 27-year-old Vancouver man who was allegedly intoxicated by drugs.
“The man claimed to have been at a rave and have arrived in the area on a party bus. The man was transported to hospital for a medical assessment before being lodged into the Trail RCMP Detachment cellblock until sober.
“The 27-year-old Vancouver man was issued a $115 fine for allegedly being Intoxicated in a public place contrary to section 74 (1) of the BC Liquor Control and Licensing Act, a $575 fine for allegedly attending a non-complaint event contrary to Section 4(4) of the BC Emergency Program Act and a $575 fine for allegedly failing to comply with travel restrictions contrary to section 2(1) of the BC Emergency Program Act.
“Trail RCMP located a number of trailers and tents in the area of the alleged rave but did not locate it or the party bus. Trail RCMP will continue to monitor the area for future incidents and issue fines under the Emergency Program Act as and if required.”
