US officials have confirmed the man police were searching for near the Roosville border crossing has been taken into custody.
Just before 4 p.m. this afternoon, US officials confirmed that the man they, and the RCMP, were searching for has been arrested and is in custody south of the border.
A number of RCMP officers, who were deployed to the area to support the on-going search are now in the processes of demobilizing, as such area residents may note increased police vehicle traffic as they return to their respective areas.
Additional RCMP resources have been deployed into the Elk Valley region for a situation unfolding in the United States, involving an individual authorities believe has crossed the border illegally.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is closely monitoring a situation involving a possible distraught man, on foot just across the border, inside the United States of American. RCMP is in contact with its American counterparts and is positioning to assume control of the situation should the individual cross the international border into Canada.
Information is very limited at this time. However, police believe the man may be in possession of a firearm or other weapons and therefore are treating this situation as a high risk incident.
