The City of Trail is one of 24 communities that were awarded Community Wellness and Harm Reduction Grants. Funded projects will be active from March 2020 to February 2021.

The Community Wellness and Harm Reduction Grant was launched to support community partnerships on focused, action-oriented harm reduction projects or initiatives, tailored to meet local needs. Grant funding was available to B.C. municipalities or regional districts that partnered with their regional Health Authority to develop collaborative harm reduction projects to enhance the knowledge, skills and resources for individuals, families and communities to be safer, healthier and more inclusive.

The evidence shows that harm reduction promotes health, improves social outcomes, and has other benefits for people with lived and living experience, their families and our broader communities. Municipalities are uniquely placed to listen and learn from people in their community and find bold and innovative ways to address challenges.

Supported by an investment of $945,000 from the Province, the Community Wellness and Harm Reduction Grant is stewarded by the Community Action Initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions’ Overdose Emergency Response Centre (OERC). Funded projects must align with the OERC’s Comprehensive Package of Interventions, and must include a Regional Health Authority partner. Collaboration with local community-based organizations and local First Nations communities and Indigenous service providers throughout the project lifespan is encouraged.
