A Trail man is facing a laundry list of charges after an incident Thursday, according to Trail top cop Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.

“On March 7, at 4:45 p.m., the Trail and Greater District RCMP Detachment conducted a traffic stop on a red Jeep Liberty bearing stolen B.C. licence plates near the intersection of Goepel Street and Third Avenue in Trail,” Wicentowish said. “The 37-year-old male driver was allegedly prohibited from driving a motor vehicle under Section 102 of the Motor Vehicle Act and was arrested for being in possession of the stolen licence plates contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.

“The Jeep Liberty was impounded for being uninsured and having several safety issues which made it unfit for operating on the road way. The search of the driver subsequent to his arrest located two substances believed to be Fentanyl and Methamphetamine as well as approximately $900 and a cell phone. Charges for possessing these allegedly illicit drugs for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act are being pursued against the driver.”

Police went on to discover this wasn’t the fellow’s first run-in with authorities.

“The driver also had an outstanding Warrant of Arrest for three criminal charges which included Personation with Intent to Avoid Arrest or Prosecution contrary to Section 403(1)(d) of the Criminal Code, Obstructing a Peace Officer contrary to Section 129(a) of the Criminal Code, and Driving while Suspended contrary to Section 102 of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act.  This incident occurred in the Lower Mainland, BC, on Aug. 2, 2018.

“The 37-year-old male driver will make his first appearance in court on June 6, at the Provincial Courthouse, in Rossland. “

Obviously, Wicentowich said, the man was released with conditions, and the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit will be closely monitoring him until his court date arrives.
