A vigil is being held this Thursday at the Castlegar arena in support of the Humboldt Broncos after a shattering crash took the lives of 15 players, according to city councillor Sue Heaton Sherstobitoff.

“Please join us on Thursday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Castlegar and District Recreation Centre in the arena for a vigil to recognize the horrific tragedy that happened to the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team on Friday, April 6,” Heaton said in a press release issued today. “The hockey world is a very tight-knit community and as such, it is fitting that Castlegar show its respect to shine a light on the community to give them strength through this difficult time.

“This tragedy could happen to any hockey or sporting team as our province and country are vast – we all have to drive to games or tournaments.”

She said there will be a line-up of speakers, singers and drummers for the vigil.

“We are hoping that our community will come out. It would be fantastic to have members for all sports teams, emergency responders, and residents attend,” she said. “Please make sure you wear a jersey – from any sport – in support of the Broncos. We will also have condolence books to sign and a few jars for donations to the team.

“Many thanks to the Castlegar and District Recreation Centre for letting us hold the vigil in the arena.”
