The Selkirk College Saints are back on the ice in preparation for the 2017-2018 British Columbia Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL) season, but before players set their sights on wins they are inviting community supporters to join them for an enjoyable day on the golf course.

The Fourth Annual Selkirk College Saints Golf Tournament tees off on September 17 at the Castlegar Golf Club. The four-person scramble is a terrific opportunity to enjoy some late season golf while helping pave the way to a successful season for the Saints.

“This event has grown substantially over the last few years, becoming a focal point for our program’s success and growth within the Kootenay community,” says Saints coach Brent Heaven.

The tournament will help raise vital funds for the upcoming season that will see the Saints looking to return to championship form. After capturing four straight BCIHL titles, the Saints were knocked out of the playoffs last March by the Trinity Western University Spartans.

“This hockey program is a success because the community supports it in numerous ways,” says Heaven. “We’re very excited to be able to partner with Kootenay Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram as our title sponsor for this year’s event and expect this to be great day for Saints’ fans and friends to meet and take part in a fun day of golf.”

The 11 a.m. shotgun start tournament is open to golfers of all levels, but each team must have a combined handicap of above 30. The cost of this year’s tournament is $80 for non-members and $50 for Castlegar Golf Club members. There will be prizes for KP, long drive, long putt, the potential for a $10,000 hole-in-one (sponsored by Mallard’s Source for Sports), random draws and a 50/50. The cost of the tournament includes green fees, a delicious dinner served by The Nineteenth restaurant and a shot at prizes.

To register for the Fourth Annual Selkirk College Saints Golf Tournament, you can pick up registration forms at Mallard’s Source For Sports in Castlegar, the Castlegar Golf Club, the Castlegar Campus Gym or online at gosaints.ca. Please send your registrations to Brent Heaven at heavenb_19@hotmail.com

The Saints begin their exhibition schedule at that Castlegar & District Recreation Complex on September 16 against the Eastern Washington University Eagles starting at 7 p.m. The regular season home opener is slated for October 6 against the Simon Fraser University Clan.
