McCormick Creek Wildfire
20 kilometres SW of Salmo in the Pend d’Oreille area
Size: Approximately 350 hectares.

Crews are focusing efforts on establishing guard. Depending on weather conditions, more smoke may be visible from this fire as a result of burn-off operations which are necessary for containment efforts.

RDCK Structural Protection Unit (including four Castlegar firefighterse) alongside a tactical fire team has been deployed to help protect the evacuated homes in the Nelway area.

 Harrop Creek Wildfire
10 km south of Harrop-Procter
Size: Approximately 2,136 hectares

This fire is currently burning in steep and complex terrain. The Harrop Mainline and East Harrop Mainline Forest Service Road is closed to the public at this time to aid in fire suppression efforts and to keep the public safe.

The fire continues to produce large amounts of smoke and will be highly visible in and around the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. People with respiratory issues may wish to contact their health professionals.

Today’s weather is bringing wind and lightening to the area which is causing new fires within the region.

There are no new Evacuation Alerts or Orders at this time, and we’d like to reiterate that the  Village of Salmo is not on an Evacuation Order or Alert.

The RDCK EOC will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
