River rescue in Trail Tuesday a success
Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue saved a boater today after engine problems led to an accident.
Captain Grant Tyson said they got the call at 4:59 p.m. and arrived on scene at 5:07 p.m.
“A recreational fisherman was out for an evening fish when he experienced motor trouble,” Tyson explained. “The occupant tried to row his way to shore, but the current was too strong. The boat hit the middle piling of the new bridge and is still lodged there.
“The occupant was able to swim to shore.”
Tyson also underscored the importance of wearing a Personal Flotation Device (life jacket) at all times while boating.
“They save lives,” he said.
