Grand Forks RCMP is issuing a warning to the public about a driveway sealing scam circulating through the Boundary following several complaints from residents in the Kootenay and Okanagan regions.

Sgt. Jim Fenske, Detachment Commander for Grand Forks RCMP, said in media release Tuesday the complaints involve three men believed to be from the United Kingdom.

“Recently there have been several complaints in the Kootenay and Okanagan areas involving three males from the United Kingdom who are travelling in a white 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck,” Fenske explained.

“The males then use high pressure sales tactics with people — targeting mostly the elderly — who eventually agree to having their driveway “sealed”.

Fenske said this has resulted in several complaints regarding the victims feeling that they have been overcharged for services.

Fenske said police cannot investigate due the matters being a civil agreement.

The RCMP is advising the public to please be aware should these individuals attend the Boundary area.
