Search resumes for missing teacher Alvin Dunic

RCMP media spokesperson Cpl Dan Moskaluk said Friday, the search for missing teacher Alvin Dunic will resume Monday (June 19th).
The 57-year-old Crawford Bay Elementary School teacher was reported missing Monday, May 29 at 2:45 p.m. after leaving the school to look for a suitable location for a class project in the Crawford Creek area.
Moskaluk said since suspension of the search effort to locate 57 year old on June 4th, 2017, the water levels in Crawford Creek have been closely monitored and have now receded sufficiently for search efforts to resume.
He said Creston RCMP and Nelson SAR and Swift Water technicians will be recommencing a search of Crawford Creek and area on Monday June 19, 2017.
Approximately 50 to 60 percent of Crawford Creek in the area has been searched to date,” Moskaluk said.
With receding water levels and flows that we now have, the search effort can resume in areas that were not covered previously.
Dunic left shortly before noon on May 29 and was expected to return at 12:30 pm.
Moskaluk said Police were alerted after Dunic failed to return.
Dunic’s vehicle was located by co-workers, parked in the area of Woolgar Rd. at the trail head to Crawford Creek near the Kokanee Springs Golf course.
At the time of the report, the Creston RCMP activated the Nelson Search and Rescue Team along with a Police Service Dog from Nelson and RCMP Air Services. The RCMP aircraft conducted an aerial search of Crawford Creek from the location of Dunic’s vehicle, to Kootenay Lake as well as the surrounding area with negative results. SAR Swift Water Rescue technicians were also called out to assist with the search.
At the peak of the search, a total of 14 Search and Rescue Teams with 87 SAR technicians from across the province had joined including: Creston, Castlegar, Nelson, Rossland, Kimberley, Kaslo, Sparwood, Oliver/Osoyoos, Central Okanagan, Revelstoke, Elkford, Cranbrook, Penticton, Princeton SAR Teams and the Riondell Fire Dept.
Alvin Dunic is described as:
- Caucasian male
- 5’10”
- medium build
- with balding/dark hair.
- Last seen wearing a light coloured short sleeve shirt, khaki shorts and loafers.
