UPDATE: Local woman faces charges after car crash yesterday

A local woman is facing multiple charges after an accident near the airport yesterday, according to RCMP Sgt. Laurel Mathew.
“On Aug. 2 at approximately 2:25 pm, Castlegar RCMP and the Ooteschenia and Castlegar Fire departments responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 3A between the Brilliant Bridge and the West Kootenay Regional Airport,” Mathew said. “A Ford pickup truck with three occupants had pulled off the driving portion of the road and two of the occupants exited the vehicle to get fresh air and the driver was still in the truck when they were struck from behind by a car being driven by a female in a red car.
“The female driver started walking away from the scene but was picked up by police a short distance away. She and one of the passengers from the truck were taken to hospital where it was learned they suffered non-life threatening injuries.
“A 38-year-old local woman is facing several charges, including: Not possessing a valid driver’s licence, no insurance, and failing to provide a breath sample.”
She said alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, but the investigation continues.
“If anyone witnessed this accident and haven’t been spoken to by Police, they are asked to call the Castlegar detachment at 250-365-7721.”

A two-vehicle MVA on Rosedale Road and Highway 3A between the Brilliant Bridge and the airport has closed the highway down to single-alternating traffic Tuesday afternoon (the highway is expected to be fully reopened shortly before 4 p.m.)
According to Deputy Fire Chief Duane Monsen, four people were involved in the crash and two have been transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
