Need a Pressure Canner? See the Rossland Public Library
Rossland REAL Food and the Rossland Public Library have combined forces for local food security. Rossland REAL Food has a collection of useful items to loan out, including a nice shiny pressure canner; for some time, only a few people even knew these items were available, and they had no “home” — they were passed around in an ad hoc manner for a few years.
Looking for a better way to make the equipment more useful, Sarah Flood of Rossland REAL Food had a bright idea and phoned the library. “It’s a great idea!” says Beverley Rintoul, library director. “We can give them a permanent home and track their usage.” If a specific piece of equipment is in high demand it may be worthwhile fundraising to add a second one to the collection.
To borrow the pressure canner, or other equipment, one needs to be an adult with a Rossland library card — free to any Rossland resident — and to sign a waiver stating that the borrower knows how to use the equipment, and accepts all the risks associated with using it.
The loan period is one week; if the equipment is out on loan already, it can be reserved.
