Nelson SAR host Swiftwater training on Slocan River
Nelson Search and Rescue rolled out the red carpet to host the fourth annual RAFTEX training weekend on the Slocan River.
Nelson SAR Public Information Officer, Chris Armstrong, said the public may have seen as many as 14 rafts on the Slocan River this past holiday weekend as teams from Nelson, Fruitvale, Penticton, Panorama, Sparwood, Invermere, Oliver and Kelowna all took part in the advanced training.
“This is a special event to bring Regional Swiftwater teams from around the province together to train in swiftwater rafting operations during swiftwater rescue events,” Armstrong explained.
“This type of water craft operation is very specialized and requires a lot of time and experiential training to become skilled at.”
Armstrong said this year there were four new members who passed their BC Raft Outfitter Association SAR guides certification.
Nelson SAR was proud to once again host the BC Search and Rescue Association sponsored event on our wonderful local rivers.
