A local business has been completely destroyed after a fire this morning.

Fire Chief Gerry Rempel said they got the 9-1-1 call just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, for a structure fire at Crossroads Printing on Second Street downtown.

“I was here in about four minutes, and the building was already pretty much fully involved,” he said in an interview at the scene. “It was knocked down within about an hour.”

Fire crews were still managing hot spots and mop up as of 11:15 a.m.

There was little that could be done to save the structure or its contents, but fire crews were able to protect nearby buildings and prevent the fire from spreading.

“We kept water lines on the nearest structure,” Rempel said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

“Once we can get in there, we’ll have a look, but it’s still under investigation,” Rempel said, adding he estimates the damages at $300,000 or more.

One firefighter was injured during today’s call out, suffering what appeared to be a muscle strain to the arm. Said firefighter was treated and sent home.
