Amazing conditions at Whitewater packs in the crowds during Spring Break
The sun was out and the crowds were also as skiers and snowboarders took advantage of some beautiful Spring Break riding at Whitewater Ski Resort in Nelson.
The break kicked off in spectacular fashion last weekend, with nearly 30cm arriving throughout the weekend and continuing into Monday.
As the week carried on, it seemed that everybody with a pair of skins or a splitboard went out to get what might be the last good turns of a fantastic season. Nearly every peak on Whitewater road showed signs of action, and the backcountry was still being attacked as the weekend closed out.
From locals and visiting Americans to students enjoying their time off, the beaming sunshine and mild temperatures had everyone feeling a bit of Spring fever.
However, it wasn’t just the students who were out enjoying themselves, but the teachers too.
“It’s been unreal, just amazing,” said Brendan Varro, a private school teacher from Vancouver Island who is spending his Spring Break in Nelson and at Whitewater.
“I’ve had some of the best riding of my life, the snow has been awesome and Whitewater is amazing,” he said.
With another two weeks to go before the resort closes the lifts down, the season shows no signs of slowing down as people continue to hike, carve and jump down the mountain, and there’s even more snow on the way next week.
Whitewater currently has a base of 315 cms with the hill receiving 23 cm in the last seven days.
