During the summer, Nelson’s Dryden Hunt wasn’t really sure where he’d be playing hockey this season.

In September, the Moose Jaw Warriors decided to take a chance on the Nelson Minor Hockey grad.

The deal, Hunt to Moose Jaw in exchange for a 2nd round pick in 2016 and a 3rd round pick in 2018 back to Medicine Hat Tigers, has paid off in spades for the Warriors.

Hunt currently leads the Warriors and the entire Western Hockey League in scoring as Eastern Division club clings to a playoff spot.

Hunt has been on a tear through January, amassing 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists), earning WHL Player of the Month honours for January 2016.

The 20-year-old Hunt has a plus-6 rating in 14 games during January, recording multiple-point outings on seven occasions, including three instances in which he collected at least four points to help the Warriors stay in the thick of the playoff race with a 6-6-3-0 record.

Hunt’s performance in January saw him earn two first star honours, two second star mentions and one third star nod.

Hunt, the son of Carla DeBiasio and Jeff Hunt of Nelson, is in his first season with Moose Jaw and his efforts have helped the Warriors remain in third place in the East Division standings to go along with an offence that has produced the fourth-most goals amongst Eastern Conference Clubs.

The 6-foot, 201-pound forward is first in Warriors scoring with 76 points (32 goals, 44 assists) in 52 games played.

Hunt is in his fifth WHL campaign and has amassed 207 points (91 goals, 118 assists) along with a plus-13 rating in 248 career regular season contests.

During the summer, the undrafted Hunt attended the Prospects Camp of the Montreal Canadiens. In 2014, Hunt played for the Carolina Hurricanes at their Prospects Tournament.

The Warriors travel to Lethbridge Friday to play the Central Division leading Hurricanes.
