Kootenay Wild steal 2-1 victory to avoid series sweep
Tiana Ewasiuk of Cranbrook and Jessica Owen Kimberley scored to spark the Kootenay Wild to a 2-1 victory over Vancouver Island Seals in BC Hockey Female AAA League action Sunday at the NDCC Arena.
The win salvaged a three-game series for the Wild after the Seals won the opening two games — Friday 5-1 and Saturday 3-0.
Ewasiuk opened the scoring to give the Wild a 1-0 first period lead.
Owen increased the margin to 2-0 after 40 minutes, combining with Kelsey Patterson of Robson and Brittney Konkin of Grand Forks.
Adelle Clark scored in the third period but Kootenay was able to hold off the late charge to register the win — the team’s second of the season.
The Wild are idle until the New Year when the Kootenay squad travels to Langley to meet Fraser Valley Rush in a three-game series.
The Rush lead the Wild by seven points in the BC Hockey Female AAA League standings.
Kootenay Wild consists of female players from throughout the region, including Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Rossland, Kimberley, Nakusp, Cranbrook, Grand Forks and Kaslo.
